CoBrA in Esbjerg

The Autumn of 2023 marks the 75^th anniversary of the foundation of the international artists’ movement CoBrA. We highlight this with the exhibition that displays CoBrA in Esbjerg; works from the museum collection as well as from private collections in the town itself, and Fanø. In this way, we offer everyone an opportunity to experience paintings, graphical works, and much more, which is normally hung in company offices or in private living rooms in Esbjerg homes.

It is possible to apply many different art historical viewing angles on CoBrA; however, we did not choose any of them. Instead, we have let the personal anecdotes, preferences, and CoBrA passions of the private collectors frame the exhibition. This organic and intuitive approach is emphasized by the scenography of the exhibition, which, in a display of the wild and expressive painting style of the CoBrA artists, unites the works into one big playful installation.
