Much more Mortensen
June 9 2020 – January 10 2021
Esbjerg Art Museum is in possession of one of the largest collections of Richard Mortensen’s works. While this collection of his works has never been displayed in its entirety, a large part of it is shown here in a completely new presentation on the occasion of the museum’s current first floor exhibition Esto es malo – this is bad.
Much More Mortensen offers a unique possibility to view six decades of Mortensen’s paintings, drawings, collages, and serigraphic prints, all hung side by side. At the same time, the presentation offers insight into the span of his oeuvre, from his early surrealistic experiments in the 1930s to his later, concrete abstract works.
The exhibition perspectivizes Richard Mortensen’s universe through a limited number of selected works by contemporary artists who in various ways relate to some of the themes and ways of expression that Mortensen himself was preoccupied with.
